Earnings Release Workpaper: Flux Analysis, Talking Points and Tie-out

Prepares and supports the quarterly earnings release and call: quarter-over-quarter and year-over-year flux with explanation thresholds, talking points tied back to the flux, and a tie-out of every release figure to the 10-Q / 10-K draft, the call script and the Template 09 non-GAAP reconciliation – plus the Item 2.02 Form 8-K date.

Tab structure

  • Instructions

Built on the common workpaper framework – see the templates overview.

Key checks and flags

  • Flux lines over the $ or % threshold read EXPLAIN until a driver explanation is entered
  • Every talking point traces to a flux line, and the figure as stated must agree to the workpaper amount
  • Release figures tie to the 10-Q / 10-K draft, the call script and Template 09 (per-share amounts to the cent)
  • Non-GAAP figures in the script need a reconciliation location – in the release or on the website for the call (Regulation G)
  • Forward-looking statements need cautionary language; each talking point needs IR / Legal review
  • Item 2.02 Form 8-K date calculated four business days after the release, with holidays; release-after-filing order is flagged
